The Post Confirmation Class at CBI is taught by Rabbi Folberg, and we have a new schedule this year! Open to all high school juniors and seniors, Post Confirmation meets twice a month on Sundays from 1:45-2:45pm, in the Youth Lounge of the Shirley Barish Learning Center. Students share a pizza lunch and participate in a discussion of current events in the Jewish world, or secular events with a "Jewish point of view."

The class is informal and there is no homework! In addition to the stimulating reading and conversation, Post Confirmation students – who often attend many different public high schools – have the opportunity to reconnect with their Jewish friends during each meeting.

Post Confirmation students are invited to come early on Sundays to serve as madrichim (assistants) in our classrooms.  As madrichim, students might assist a special-needs student, take photographs and/or write about religious school for our newsletters, or assist in the office.  You can work first session, 9-11am, second session, 11:30-1:30, or both.  If you'd like to become a madrich/a, please fill out the madrichim section in the registration form, or contact Sarah Jew, This email address is being protected from spambots. Post Confirmation students are also welcome to come early to hang out in our Youth Lounge to do homework, have some snacks, and catch up with friends.

One perennial highlight of the Post Confirmation year is the big class trip. On alternating years, the class travels to either New York City or Washington, DC. The New York Trip focuses on the Jewish immigrant experience. It includes trips to Ellis Island, the Lower East Side, at least one of New York's excellent Jewish museums and Shabbat services at an outstanding New York area synagogue. The Washington Trip centers around a curriculum on Jewish civic involvement and social justice sponsored by either The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism or Panim El Panim ("Face-To-Face," which is run by BBYO). Either way, our students get to meet other Jewish high school kids from all over the United States during the Washington Trip. Many students have described these trips as life-changing experiences!

Finally, every spring, we honor our Post Confirmation students with a graduation ceremony during a Friday night Shabbat service. All participants are recognized, and our high school seniors receive a gift and a diploma from our Religious School.

The Post Confirmation Class is in part supported by a generous, annual grant from the Moshana Foundation. The Moshana Foundation was created by Helen and Milton Smith, of blessed memory, to support Jewish education for CBI high school students following their Confirmation year in 10th grade.

We are very proud of this program and hope that your high school student will be part of it!
