Grades K-5 meet from 9-11 AM on 21 Sundays from September through May. Our Sunday program aims to build positive relationships among students, teachers, rabbis, and staff within a Jewish context. During class time, students learn about the Jewish holidays, Torah, Israel, and Gimilut Chasadim (Acts of Loving Kindness). Class learning is reinforced through special sessions with our Cantorial Soloist, Sarah Avner, and visits with all three of our rabbis. Every Sunday, students also participate in a musical and spiritual tefila (prayer) service with the whole school community, featuring singing, stories, time with our rabbis, and an innovative ‘visual tefila’ powerpoint display which enables even our youngest worshippers to connect to the meaning of the prayers through image.
Grades K-2 also experience Hebrew Through Movement, an exciting program geared towards exposing students to Hebrew as a living language as they react with their whole bodies to the basic verbs and nouns of Hebrew.
Grades 3-6 meet for an additional weekday session which meets on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 PM. This program enables students to expand their sense of connection with their peers, teachers, and rabbis, while providing an opportunity to deepen their engagement with the Hebrew language, gain important Jewish skills, and make choices in their own Jewish learning journeys. The Wednesday program is an exciting and nurturing experience. Click here for details of the curriculum.
Learning to Read Hebrew at CBI
Students enrolled in both our Sunday and Midrasha programs learn to read Hebrew as individual learners with a volunteer Hebrew mentor from our community, using the Let’s Learn Hebrew Side-by-Side program. Let’s Learn Hebrew meets on Sundays following religious school, from 11:15 am- 12:15 pm.
